Day 2 Genesis 17:1 - Genesis 28:19

Genesis 17:1-27 Everlasting Covenant with Abraham
  • God renewed His covenant with Abram when he was 99 years old. This was not a conditional covenant but an everlasting one and is still in effect today (different than the National Covenant made after the Exodus which was conditional).
  • Abram's name changed to Abraham (the father of a multitude). Sarai's name was changed to Sarah (princess). The addition of "h", was the addition of Grace.
  • The distinction between the Everlasting Covenant with Abraham and the Blessing of Ishmael was made. The Israelite Nation and the Arab Nation established.
  • The covenant with and circumcision of Abraham's household was in 1897 BC, when he was 99 years old (and Ishmael was 13 years old).
Genesis 18:1-19:38 Sodom & Gomorrah
  • God and two of God's Angels appeared before Abraham in the plains of Mamre. Note, that angels are not winged creatures of any of the mythological portrayals. They are simply souls in their spiritual bodies. When we are not here in the flesh (where our souls reside in these flesh bodies), then we are in the other dimension with God in our spiritual bodies.
  • The nephilim did not come through the flesh age born of woman (which was their sin punishable by death...see Jude), but were able (just as Satan was in the Garden of Eden with Eve) to mix with man/woman in the flesh.
  • Flesh man was able to consume manna (angel's food) during the Exodus, and angel's were able to consume flesh food during such presented times as this.
  • Abraham's intercessions for Sodom reflect the thought process (to me) in God's decision about what to do with the 1/3 that followed Satan (and other 1/3 that were "fence sitters) in the 1st earth age, and why He didn't destroy everyone/everything at that time for the sake of the 1/3 that stood by Him (and the possibility of the 1/3 back-n-forthers). Instead He gave everyone a clean slate in this 2nd earth age.
  • The "men" referenced in Genesis 19:4 in the Hebrew means "men of depravity".
  • Lot's married daughters and son-in-laws (number unknown) were destroyed in the destruction of Sodom/Gomorrah as they chose to stay there.
  • If not for the angels' intervention 1) Lot would have been dealt worse by the men outside his door for Lot not turning over the angels to them. 2) Lot would have continued to doddle and either delayed their mission or been destroyed in their mission if they had not hastened him along.
  • Lot's wife died solely due to her lamenting the loss of her home in depravity (turned to salt when she looked back).
  • The brimstone/fire destruction of Sodom/Gomorrah and the smoke of a furnace result is an example of the smoke of "hell" at Judgment Day when those sentenced to die a spiritual death are blotted out.
  • The Moabites and Ammonites were the result of Lot fathering his two daughter's sons.
Genesis 20:1-18 Abimelech
  • It was Abraham's lack of faith in God's protection of him and His Everlasting Covenant resulting in him hiding that Sarah was his wife. While technically she was his sister (same father, different mothers), she was his wife first and foremost. God reproved this deception which is to say He reprimanded.
  • God closed up Abimelech's wife and household wombs so that they would not be able to bare children during Abraham's deception about Sarah as his wife. He did this in protection of the seedline to Christ and His Everlasting Covenant.
Genesis 21:1-21  Birth of Isaac
  • Isaac was born 1896 BC when Abraham was 100 years old and Ishmael was 14 years old.
  • The 400 years spoken of in Genesis 15:13 began with the recognition of Isaac as Abraham's seed (official seedline to Christ) in Genesis 21:10 (1891-1491 BC). Acts 7:6
  • The 430 years spoken of in Galatians 3:17 began with God making the Everlasting Covenant with Abraham in 1921 BC (to the Exodus in 1491 BC). Exodus 12:40
  • When Ishmael was 19 years old in 1891 BC, he (and Hagar) were cast out from Isaac's house (inheritance) and went to the wilderness of Paran which is in the Sinai Peninsula (southwest of Petra). Isaac was 5 years old.
Genesis 21:22-34 Covenant between Abraham & Abimelech
  • Phichol was a title not a name of an individual.
  • The word "grove" in Genesis 21:33 is the Hebrew word "eshel" meaning trees (actual timber) which is different than the word "asherah" used other places referring to something set upright/erect to be worshipped (as was the practice of pagans). This particular grove would be the wood used in Genesis 22:3 for the sacrifice of Isaac 22 years later.
Genesis 22:1-19 Isaac as a Sacrifice
  • The word "tempt" in Genesis 22:1 means prove/test. This would be a testing of Abraham's faith in God and His Covenant. It was a representation of God's great sacrifice of His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, on the Cross. Isaac was Abraham's only son under the Covenant (seedline) for which Christ fulfilled the first of two parts until it is complete (1st Advent He came in the flesh and died on the Cross; 2nd Advent He will come to sit on the Throne as King of Kings).
  • The "the wood" in Genesis 22:3 was from that grove planted 22 years earlier in Genesis 21:33.
  • Abraham's faith was relayed in Genesis 22:8 in telling Isaac that God would provide himself a lamb for the sacrifice (and He did both then and later with Christ on the Cross, the Lamb slain). Again in Genesis 22:10 when he stretched forth his hand to slay Isaac, Abraham demonstrated he had the faith and trust in God to do His will knowing that it would be for the good (either God would halt him (which He did) or would provide other means to uphold His Covenant with Abraham).
  • The word in Genesis 22:12 is "reverest" in Hebrew, not "fearest".
  • After this sacrifice testing, God reiterated his Everlasting Covenant a second time with Abraham. He once again acknowledged Isaac as the son of the seedline (to Christ). The blessing of all thy seed and nations would be through Christ.
Genesis 22:20-24:67 Sarah & Rebekah
  • Abraham's brother Nahor begat Bethuel who was Rebekah's father.
  • Sarah died in 1859 BC when she was 127 years old (Isaac was 37 years old), in Hebron. She was buried in the cave of Machpelah which is known as the Cave of the Patriarchs. Also later buried there was Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Rebekah, Leah.
  • Nahor, Laban (Rebekah's brother), and Rebekah resided in Padan-aram, NW Mesopotamia between the NW ends of Euphrates & Tigris Rivers, in Haran.
  • With faith in God, and Abraham's servant's obedience, and Rebekah's willingness, Rebekah was brought to Isaac from Haran.
  • As stated in Genesis 25:20, Isaac was 40 years old when he married Rebekah, in 1856 BC.
Genesis 25:1-11 Abraham
  • 13 years after Sarah died, Abraham married Keturah in 1846 BC when he was 150 years old.
  • Abraham and Keturah begat six sons which included Midian for which the Midianite priests come.
  • Abraham died when he was 175 years old in 1821 BC (Isaac was 75 years old).
Genesis 25:12-18 Ishmael
  • Ishmael's descendants are listed herein, naming the 12 princes which were promised him.
  • Ishmael died when he was 137 years old in 1773 BC (Isaac was 123 years old).
Genesis 25:19-27:40 Isaac
  • Isaac and Rebekah had twins in 1836 BC when Isaac was 60 years old (and Abraham was 160 years old). God said the twins in Rebekah's womb were two nations, Esau and Jacob.
  • Esau and Jacob were 15 years old when Abraham died in 1821 BC.
  • Esau would be called Edom, and his descendants would be known as the Edomites (or Idumeans) settling Edom around Petra SE of Canaan.
  • When Esau sold his birthright to Jacob out of hunger (and complete disregard for his birthright, or later honor him doing so in fighting for the blessing), it is possible it was during the time of the famine spoken of in Genesis 26:1.
  • The first famine was during Abraham's time. This second one in Genesis 26:1 was in 1812 BC per the Bullinger KJV Companion Bible dating and would have been when Jacob/Esau were 24 years old (Isaac 84 years old).
  • The seedline was instructed not to marry of the inhabitants of Canaan (to keep seedline pure and free from nephilim/geber intermixing). Esau married two Hittites when he was 40 years old in 1796 BC.
  • Whether Rebekah or Isaac were aware of Esau having sold his birthright to Jacob or not, God foretold when they were in the womb that the elder would serve the younger. Rebekah instructed Jacob to deceive Isaac for the blessing that Isaac was intent on giving to Esau. Jacob received the blessing in 1759 BC when he was 77 years old (per the Bullinger KJV Companion Bible dating). Reference Hebrews 12:17 with regard to Esau and his blessing.
Genesis 27:41-28:19 Jacob
  • Esau planning revenge against Jacob, Rebekah sent Jacob away to find a wife among her brother Laban in Haran.
  • Daughters of Heth referenced in Genesis 27:46 were Philistines (of the land of Canaan) and referring to Esau's choice of wives.
  • Esau seeing the displeasure from Isaac/Rebekah in his Hittite wives, chooses a wife from the daughters of Ishmael.
  • The Everlasting Covenant is made with Jacob. the stones that Jacob took up were then carried with him and referenced again in Scripture. The very coronation stone is still used with the kings of Judah to this day in England.
  • The word "dreadful" in Genesis 28:17 is the Hebrew word "yare" meaning reverent.
  • Bethel means the House of God (beth=house & el=God).
