Quick Note On Leviticus & Numbers
Leviticus was almost one year to the day since God brought the Israelites out of Egypt. Note the differences in the types offerings (means of atonement) in Exodus (more about redemption) and Leviticus (more about worship).
The four Books of the Pentateuch following Genesis are a continuation from the previous Book and therefore Genesis - Deuteronomy can be considered one Book. The "and" beginning in some of them signifies a continuation from earlier.
Numbers in Hebrew means "wilderness.
The beginning of Leviticus is day one of the first month of the second year since leaving Egypt. Numbers 10:10 is the 20th Day of the 2nd month of the 2nd year, so the span of time between the first of Leviticus and Numbers 10:10 is only about a 45-50 day period.
There are two sets of numberings ordered by God in Numbers (three in total, with the first being in Exodus 30:11-12). There is almost 40 years time between the second numbering in Numbers 1-3 and the third number in Numbers 26. The Levites were counted in a separate manner and for a different purpose. The rest of the Israelites were counted for purposes of fighting men (sons 20 years old and older), and therefore, the count is not of all peoples (no woman, girls, children).

Day 9 Leviticus 14:33 - Leviticus 26:26
Leviticus 14:33-26:26 Laws/Ordinances/Statutes Continued
- The Day of Atonement is at the beginning of the Feasts of Tabernacles (the 3rd of the 3 High Holy Feasts outlined in Exodus 23:14-19). This was set aside once a year in the seventh month (Sept/Oct) for atonement for all of Israel's sins.
- In Leviticus 18:5 it states that keeping the Lord's statutes and judgments is to live in them...clarification that God does not want blind followers "acting" out a script, He wants you to live as you believe. Where your heart truly lies is where your true actions follow.
- Leviticus 18:8 defines what it means to "uncover your father's nakedness" (lie with his wife).
- Leviticus 18:9 "born abroad" means previous marriage.
- Reminder that fear in most places referring to God should be translated "revere". God does not want you to fear Him as He is not a God to be feared. He is a God of love and wants your love. He should be revered as our Creator and Father.
- Molech is a king-idol and represents pagan worship (children sacrificed by fire).
- Leviticus 20:9 "curseth" means to bring into contempt, despise.
- God's distinction between the people and nations of Canaan (Israel's promised land) was that they did all the things that God forbid (in His statutes and judgments). He stipulates that Israel will also be spewed from the land if they do the same. God did not want them mixing with these nations so as not to follow in their pagan rituals or tainted in heart against the statutes and judgments of God for their protection. Similar to why the priests could not marry but a virgin (to marry a widow or divorced woman would be to marry someone who was influenced by another).
- The Feasts (high Holy days) are detailed in Leviticus 23. Note that "no servile work" is different than "no work" at all.
- To blaspheme the Lord is to use the name instead of Jehovah, libel against God's name. Taking the Lord's name in vain is to slander against His name in misrepresentation, snide reference of, idolic replacement of, to use Him for self-gain. "Cursed" here is the same Hebrew word "curseth" meaning bring into contempt, despise.
- "killeth" in Leviticus 24:17 is to lie in wait to murder (this is not the same as self-defense or soldiers at war...more on this in another post).
- Leviticus 26 provides the IF/THENS....it's vital not to gloss over the "if you do" of God's promises. God's promises and blessings stated are not the same as His Everlasting Covenant. Here it is stipulated that "if" His statues, commandments are followed, then, and only then, would His promises of abundance, blessings, protection be given. Further stipulated is that if they are not followed, then He outlines the consequences. There will be a post later on regarding the historical occurrence and relevance of the seven times punishment that Israel underwent by not adhering to these if/thens from Leviticus 26. Day 8 Leviticus 1:1 - Leviticus 14:32
Leviticus 1:1-9:24 Offerings & Priests Consecrated
- God made a distinction between sins committed in ignorance versus those committed knowingly. He further stipulated that the guilt of a sin committed in ignorance became known once it was realized as a sin. Keep in mind that the further the Israelites were from Egypt (time wise) and from Moses' speaking directly to them about God's Laws, Statutes, and Ordinances, that they were only given the information on the High Holy Days (which is what made attending them so important). We are blessed to have access to God's Word and are expected to commune in it daily for our protection, proof, ability to stay healthy and away from temptation of the very things/peoples of this world that continually tripped up Israel. It's easy to sit in our present day and judge the Israelites' many failings not understanding that they did not have such access to read and reread for themselves daily.
- Thankfully Christ became our blood sacrifice so we no longer have to follow the rituals of the blood ordinances in our daily walk today. We simply have to repent for our sins rather than offer up sin, trespass, peace, and wave offerings. Nailed To The Cross
- The Offerings served two purposes: 1) the ability for sins to be wiped away and 2) to prove (proof) the Israelites' obedience to God. God continues and always to prove His children through their knowledge and obedience to His instructions to us.
- The "strange fire" was Nadab and Abihu (Aaron's sons/priests) bringing in and creating fire of their own making/choosing against that for which God had commanded them to do. Right out of the gate, the keepers of God's command went with what was easy as opposed to what was proof of their obedience. God is not unreasonable or unnatural. He stipulated processes in part for Israelites' (our) protection, and in part to test (prove) the Israelites' heart in following Him.
- God provides both the commands of Law (which still exist today), the blood ordinances/offerings (which changed in process (repent for sins) when Christ became our blood ordinance for all time), and in Health Ordinances/Statutes (which are not a sin against God/our soul, but against the flesh bodies He created). As God created our flesh bodies, He knows beyond what even our present day science knows/understands about how they work and what keeps them healthy (we only in recent past century discovered DNA for which was spoken of in Genesis). God will not condemn us to a spiritual death based on breaking these health laws, but rather we condemn our health in these flesh bodies by not following God's instructions of what keeps them healthy.
- Leviticus 11 outlines the Food Laws. All of God's creatures are perfectly made in their function and purpose for which they were created. Whether they are good for consumption is based upon their purpose (scavengers were created to keep the earth and seas clean and are a necessary purpose served....eating them however is unhealthy to our flesh bodies. Their very structure created for their purpose (whether or not they are eating the filthiest of earthly/sea trash or man served foods, their system is such to serve their purpose which is unhealthy for us to consume). Wait For It....
I am failing miserably at getting my 90 Days posts done .... I'm not going to give up making it work though......Just around the corner is my opening to have the time necessary to get these posts to you....Once that happens, I have no doubt I'll be able to consistently get these out daily.....
