Quick Note On Leviticus & Numbers

Leviticus was almost one year to the day since God brought the Israelites out of Egypt. Note the differences in the types offerings (means of atonement) in Exodus (more about redemption) and Leviticus (more about worship).

The four Books of the Pentateuch following Genesis are a continuation from the previous Book and therefore Genesis - Deuteronomy can be considered one Book. The "and" beginning in some of them signifies a continuation from earlier.

Numbers in Hebrew means "wilderness.

The beginning of Leviticus is day one of the first month of the second year since leaving Egypt. Numbers 10:10 is the 20th Day of the 2nd month of the 2nd year, so the span of time between the first of Leviticus and Numbers 10:10 is only about a 45-50 day period.

There are two sets of numberings ordered by God in Numbers (three in total, with the first being in Exodus 30:11-12). There is almost 40 years time between the second numbering in Numbers 1-3 and the third number in Numbers 26. The Levites were counted in a separate manner and for a different purpose. The rest of the Israelites were counted for purposes of fighting men (sons 20 years old and older), and therefore, the count is not of all peoples (no woman, girls, children).

Day 9 Leviticus 14:33 - Leviticus 26:26

Leviticus 14:33-26:26 Laws/Ordinances/Statutes Continued
  • The Day of Atonement is at the beginning of the Feasts of Tabernacles (the 3rd of the 3 High Holy Feasts outlined in Exodus 23:14-19). This was set aside once a year in the seventh month (Sept/Oct) for atonement for all of Israel's sins.
  • In Leviticus 18:5 it states that keeping the Lord's statutes and judgments is to live in them...clarification that God does not want blind followers "acting" out a script, He wants you to live as you believe. Where your heart truly lies is where your true actions follow.
  • Leviticus 18:8 defines what it means to "uncover your father's nakedness" (lie with his wife).
  • Leviticus 18:9 "born abroad" means previous marriage.
  • Reminder that fear in most places referring to God should be translated "revere". God does not want you to fear Him as He is not a God to be feared. He is a God of love and wants your love. He should be revered as our Creator and Father.
  • Molech is a king-idol and represents pagan worship (children sacrificed by fire).
  • Leviticus 20:9 "curseth" means to bring into contempt, despise.
  • God's distinction between the people and nations of Canaan (Israel's promised land) was that they did all the things that God forbid (in His statutes and judgments). He stipulates that Israel will also be spewed from the land if they do the same. God did not want them mixing with these nations so as not to follow in their pagan rituals or tainted in heart against the statutes and judgments of God for their protection. Similar to why the priests could not marry but a virgin (to marry a widow or divorced woman would be to marry someone who was influenced by another).
  • The Feasts (high Holy days) are detailed in Leviticus 23. Note that "no servile work" is different than "no work" at all.
  • To blaspheme the Lord is to use the name instead of Jehovah, libel against God's name. Taking the Lord's name in vain is to slander against His name in misrepresentation, snide reference of, idolic replacement of, to use Him for self-gain. "Cursed" here is the same Hebrew word "curseth" meaning bring into contempt, despise.
  • "killeth" in Leviticus 24:17 is to lie in wait to murder (this is not the same as self-defense or soldiers at war...more on this in another post).
  • Leviticus 26 provides the IF/THENS....it's vital not to gloss over the "if you do" of God's promises. God's promises and blessings stated are not the same as His Everlasting Covenant. Here it is stipulated that "if" His statues, commandments are followed, then, and only then, would His promises of abundance, blessings, protection be given. Further stipulated is that if they are not followed, then He outlines the consequences. There will be a post later on regarding the historical occurrence and relevance of the seven times punishment that Israel underwent by not adhering to these if/thens from Leviticus 26. For now, "A Time"

Day 8 Leviticus 1:1 - Leviticus 14:32

Leviticus 1:1-9:24 Offerings & Priests Consecrated
  • God made a distinction between sins committed in ignorance versus those committed knowingly. He further stipulated that the guilt of a sin committed in ignorance became known once it was realized as a sin. Keep in mind that the further the Israelites were from Egypt (time wise) and from Moses' speaking directly to them about God's Laws, Statutes, and Ordinances, that they were only given the information on the High Holy Days (which is what made attending them so important). We are blessed to have access to God's Word and are expected to commune in it daily for our protection, proof, ability to stay healthy and away from temptation of the very things/peoples of this world that continually tripped up Israel. It's easy to sit in our present day and judge the Israelites' many failings not understanding that they did not have such access to read and reread for themselves daily.
  • Thankfully Christ became our blood sacrifice so we no longer have to follow the rituals of the blood ordinances in our daily walk today. We simply have to repent for our sins rather than offer up sin, trespass, peace, and wave offerings.  Nailed To The Cross
  • The Offerings served two purposes: 1) the ability for sins to be wiped away and 2) to prove (proof) the Israelites' obedience to God. God continues and always to prove His children through their knowledge and obedience to His instructions to us.
Leviticus 10:1-7 Nadab & Abihu
  • The "strange fire" was Nadab and Abihu (Aaron's sons/priests) bringing in and creating fire of their own making/choosing against that for which God had commanded them to do. Right out of the gate, the keepers of God's command went with what was easy as opposed to what was proof of their obedience. God is not unreasonable or unnatural. He stipulated processes in part for Israelites' (our) protection, and in part to test (prove) the Israelites' heart in following Him.
Leviticus 10:8-14:32 Health Ordinances
  • God provides both the commands of Law (which still exist today), the blood ordinances/offerings (which changed in process (repent for sins) when Christ became our blood ordinance for all time), and in Health Ordinances/Statutes (which are not a sin against God/our soul, but against the flesh bodies He created). As God created our flesh bodies, He knows beyond what even our present day science knows/understands about how they work and what keeps them healthy (we only in recent past century discovered DNA for which was spoken of in Genesis). God will not condemn us to a spiritual death based on breaking these health laws, but rather we condemn our health in these flesh bodies by not following God's instructions of what keeps them healthy.
  • Leviticus 11 outlines the Food Laws. All of God's creatures are perfectly made in their function and purpose for which they were created. Whether they are good for consumption is based upon their purpose (scavengers were created to keep the earth and seas clean and are a necessary purpose served....eating them however is unhealthy to our flesh bodies. Their very structure created for their purpose (whether or not they are eating the filthiest of earthly/sea trash or man served foods, their system is such to serve their purpose which is unhealthy for us to consume). Health Laws

Quite right, who am I to post such a blog as this?  I am no one. I do not claim to be better or wiser than anyone. I completely profess to be a student of God's Word and am only looking to share knowledge that I have gleamed from deep study in God's Word over the past 25 years. I fully acknowledge that the understanding and knowledge that I have obtained is a blessing from God in providing me with teachers and tools over the years to lead me to a greater understanding of His Word. I completely adhere to the statement that: For Everything that I am and Everything that I am yet to be, I owe to God! Thanks always be to Him!!! Only through God's direction and guidance am I sharing this with you. Whether you dig into God's Word to prove me wrong or to prove me right, it makes no difference as long as you are digging into God's Word and arriving at a deeper understanding of Him and His path for you!

Now read on for the most recent Post ;-)  Note that in trying to outline a flow of understanding some of the studies presented are not in full depth.  Once I get past a certain point and have put forth the foundation of understanding, I will go back to those needing more depth with additional posts.  Also, know that all of the Appendices posted herein are from the Bullinger's King James Companion Bible.

Also, know that my husband came across another site offering free access to The Companion Bible, King James Version (also referred to as the Bullinger King James Companion Bible).  Here is a link for those interested:  http://www.levendwater.org/companion/frameset.htm?The%20Companion%20Bible%20-%20Bullinger/index.htm&inhoudsopgave_companion.htm

Day 7 Exodus 29:1 - Exodus 40:38

Exodus 29:1-31:18 Priests/Offerings
  • These blood ordinances (sin offerings) are what Christ replaced when He died on the Cross. He became our blood offering. He did not replace the Law itself, just the ordinances. Nailed To The Cross
  • Olive oil is our anointing oil. Anointing
Exodus 32:1-35 Golden Calf
  • Everyone of Israel knew the 10 Commandments, the Laws and Ordinances after Moses' 3rd ascent of Mt. Sinai. They were well aware of the Commandment not to worship other gods/idols. When Moses was with God the 4th time (for 40 days), the Israelites built the golden calf to worship....making God especially angry with their actions against the Law.
Exodus 33:1-40:38 Israel Resumes Journey / 2nd Tablets

  • Even in Israel's sins God honors His covenant with Abraham/Isaac/Jacob and renews it.
  • The reason for no one living if they see God's face (see His spiritual other dimensional being) is simply that in these flesh bodies we can not see spiritual bodies in the other dimension. As we are in two separate dimensions, (unless God chooses to materialize in this dimension through transfiguration) we would have to be dead in the flesh and live in the spiritual to be in that dimension).
  • The purpose for driving out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites from Canaan (the Promised Land) was because of their mixing with the fallen angels in the second influx (after the Flood) and them practicing pagan rituals (grove worship). As proven with the Golden Calf, Israel could not be trusted even for 40 days to not fall under pagan examples. These people were to be driven out of the land, not intermixed with in marriage, and not made covenants with or permitted to stay in the land.
  • After all 6 ascents, the giving of the Law multiple times, and the building of the Tabernacle Israel had been departed from Egypt one full year. The Tabernacle was completed and set up as instructed the first day of the first month (Abib) in the second year from the Exodus.

Day 6 Exodus 15:19 - Exodus 28:43

Exodus 15:19-17:16 Israel's Murmurings
  • Three days out from the Red Sea and into the Wilderness of Shur (upper Sinai Peninsula) and the murmurings started about the lack of water. God supplied a tree which when cast into the waters made it sweet and drinkable.
  • God put forth the If/Then of if the Israelites would hearken to the voice of the Lord and do that which is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments, keep His statutes, then He would not be against them as He was the Egyptians.
  • Interjection: God's humor is funny ha ha to me....Israel complains about bitter water and He parks them in Elim where there are 12 wells of water and 70 palm trees. What do the Israelites do, they then complain about hunger.
  • As the Israelites journeyed from Elim and into the Wilderness of Sin (southern Sinai Peninsula), they again murmured with regard to not having all they could eat until they were full. God's answer was to give them manna (manna meaning "what is that?") in the morning and quail in the evening.
  • The battle of Amalek was him fighting Israel for well water as was the case in Genesis 21:25. Rephidim is located in southern Sinai.
Exodus 18:1-27 Jethro
  • Chapter 18 in Exodus is a parenthetical so not clear if timeline wise it was before or after the 10 Commandments were issued. Either way, there were clearly laws/ordinances/statutes prior to the defined Commandments issued at Mt. Sinai.
  • Jethro (Moses' father-in-law, the Midianite priest) met Moses in the Wilderness of Sin because he was bringing Moses back his wife (Zipporah) and his two sons (Gershom and Eliezer). Moses had sent them to Midian previously.
  • The mount of God is thought by most to be the same as Mt. Horeb and Mt. Sinai (as Mt. Horeb and Mt. Sinai are used interchangeably and thought to be the same mountain with different names at different times in history/writings). Mt. Sinai is located in southern Sinai.
Exodus 19:1-27:21 The Ten Commandments

  • The reference "in the third month" in Exodus 19:1 is to it being the 3rd month of the year. They left Egypt in the 1st month, so this puts the two months from the Red Sea/in the wilderness (50 days).
    • Note, that 50 days from Passover is Pentecost (Feast of Harvest/first fruits) which would later become one of the three feasts to be kept through the year.
  • House of Jacob=All 12 natural born Tribes of Israel.
  • Moses ascended/descended Mt. Sinai six times:

Ascents                                  Descents
19:3-6               First             19:7-8
19:8-13             Second         19:14-19
19:20-24           Third           19:25
24:9-32:14        Fourth         32:15-30
32:31-33           Fifth             32:34-34:3
34:4-28             Sixth             34:29-35

  • Exodus 20:5 does not mean that children pay for the sins of their parents. It means that if the sins continue through the generations each will pay for the continued sins.  Sins of the Father
  • When Moses ascended the 3rd time, God gave him the 10 Commandments orally. Moses relayed those laws to all of Israel before ascending the 4th time for the 40 days/40 nights for the Tabernacle and Priest instructions and the stone tablets of the written 10 Commandments.
  • The 3 feasts to be kept, Exodus 23:14-19:
    • Feast of Unleavened Bread=Passover, 14 days following Spring Equinox, 1st month of the year which is Abib (March/April).
    • Feast of Harvest, Firstfruits=Pentecost, 50 days following Passover (May/June)
    • Feast of Ingathering=Feast of Tabernacle, Sept/Oct
      • The Spiritual Year begins at Abib/Passover
      • The Civil Year begins at Feast of Tabernacles which is why it is referenced as end of the year
Exodus 28:1-43 Aaron/Priests Set Apart

  • An excellent study on the breastplate of the priest was done by E. Raymond Capt, titled "The Gem Stones in the Breastplate".
  • No instructions on the creation of the Urim and the Thummin, just that they were to be put in the breastplate for judgment, Exodus 28:30. The Urim and the Thummin were most likely two stones for which God's judgment could be relayed through the casting lots (using these stones). More on this in a deeper study later.

Unexpected Hiatus

The last couple of weeks and continuing into this week have been a whirlwind of expected and unexpected medical and personal obstacles. On all fronts, God has been extremely good to me, and while it has been trying, stressful, painful, difficult, it has also been rewarding, doable, and blessed. I am still healing from the medical procedure, and have several more procedures to go before the year is out, but have good news and many things for which to be grateful! With God all things are possible, and I continue to work and rest in Him! I will be back on the "90 Days" postings which obviously aren't as I planned, but what will work out for the best. Thanks for continuing to check back...my hope is to have regular posts resuming later this week!!!

Day 5 Exodus 1:1 - Exodus 15:18

Exodus 1:1-2:25 Moses' Early Life
  • Joseph died as had all his brethren, and all that generation at this time (start of Exodus). What started as 70 souls grew abundantly and remained in Egypt.
  • The new king over Egypt was a new dynasty (family) ruling over Egypt. This dynasty not knowing Joseph indicates they were removed both in knowledge and years from the famines and Joseph's given rights under the dynasty of Joseph's time.
  • This new Pharaoh (dynasty) feared the abundance of the Hebrews (Israelites). In an effort to minimize their perceived threat of the Israelites overthrowing them, they afflicted them in bondage as well as population control in killing male offspring. The first order was for the midwives of the Hebrew births to kill all male born babies. In the midwives' reverence to God, they did not carry this order out. The second edict from Pharaoh was then for the Egyptians to throw any Hebrew son born into the river.
  • Moses was born into the House of Levi in 1571 BC (per Bullinger KJV Companion Bible dating). This would be a 64 year gap between the death of Joseph in 1635 BC and Moses' birth in 1571 BC. Moses' older siblings were his sister Miriam and brother Aaron.
  • When Moses was three months old he was discovered by the Pharaoh's daughter, and by Moses' sister Miriam was given back to his mother to nurse until he was older. Pharaoh's daughter claimed and named Moses as her own. Moses means "drawn from water".
  • After Moses was grown, he saw the mistreatment of his Hebrew relatives and slayed the Egyptian afflicting them. Moses then had to flee Egypt for the Pharaoh now wanted him killed. Moses fled to the land of Midian which was south of the land of Edom.
  • Reuel was a Midianite priest (of Abrahamic descent through Keturah) and would become Moses' father-in-law. He is referenced elsewhere in the Bible by different names/titles.  Moses' Father-In-Law
  • It was during Moses' time in Midian that a new Pharaoh ruled over Egypt.
Exodus 3:1-4:31 Moses' Call & Return to Egypt
  • God first communicated with Moses through the burning bush and instructed him to go to Egypt to free Israel. Moses had two objections: 1st was his disbelief that the people of Israel would believe God had sent him. To this, God gave Moses three forms of proof (rod turn to serpent, his hand turning leprous, and water to blood). 2nd was his inadequacy in speech and refusal of faith in God speaking through him. To this, God gave Moses his brother Aaron as his mouthpiece.
  • God knew the then Pharaoh's heart, and knew that he would not just let Israel go because of Moses' usherings or proof of God. When it states that God would harden Pharaoh's heart, that is to say that He would allow or embolden Pharaoh's heart permitting him to act as his heart desired in this. Not changing Pharaoh's heart to His will.
  • Aaron met Moses upon God's direction and they both went to Egypt and to the people of Israel, and they believed God was with them and were thankful God knew of their affliction in Egypt.
Exodus 5:1-11:10 Pharaoh and the 10 Plagues
  • Pharaoh's response to Aaron/Moses requesting he let Israel go for three days to worship God was to task the Israelites with more work making their burdens increased. Pharaoh did not believe in God or give any credence to His authority.
  • The Israelites being extra burdened by Pharaoh grumbled against Aaron/Moses to which Moses accused God of not doing good by the people as He promised.
  • God renews His Everlasting Covenant (of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob) with Moses. He told Moses it would have to be with a strong hand for Pharaoh to let Israel go.
  • The Israelites would not hearken unto these promises made by God through Moses this second time. Moses questioned God as to his credentials to even speak to Israel/Pharaoh. God charged both Aaron/Moses unto Israel/Pharaoh to bring Israel out of Egypt. He then gave Aaron/Moses credentials by way of their heritage of Levi, heads of the fathers' of Levi.
  • Levi's death was noted in Exodus 6:16 as being 1612 BC when he was 137 years old.
  • In Exodus 7:7 it gives us Moses/Aaron's ages, dating them going back to Pharaoh in 1491 BC, which is the same year as the Exodus; therefore, all the events with Pharaoh/Exodus occurred in a one year time frame. Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83 years old.
  • Moses/Aaron go to Pharaoh and did as the Lord commanded. Pharaoh's sorcerers performed the rod to serpent copy of what Aaron did, except Aaron's rod swallowed up their rod. As an imitation of real authority and miracles can never overcome the real deal.
  • Interjection: All of the events surrounding the Exodus are mirrored events to those of the end times. Deeper study on this in the future beyond what I have already given (links below). Also note, that Satan always mirrors God and twists Scripture/supernatural/God's plan. If you aren't paying attention (and know God's Truth/Plan), you will most likely be deceived.

  • The first plague was turning water to blood. Pharaoh's sorcerers duplicated this feat as well and Pharaoh's heart remained hard against God's authority. Seven days all the waters in Egypt remained blood.
  • The second plague was that of frogs. Pharaoh's sorcerers were again able to duplicate this, but in this second plague, Pharaoh asked that the Lord take away the frogs and he would allow Israel to go to worship God. Upon God removing the frogs from over the land of Egypt, and Pharaoh having rest from the plague, he once again hardened his heart against God.
  • The third plague was that of lice. This is the first miracle that Pharaoh's sorcerers could not duplicate. The magicians then believed that this was indeed the finger of God, but Pharaoh's heart remained hardened.
  • The fourth plague was swarms of flies, but only in the land of Egypt not including Goshen. This was the first time God separated His people (Israelites) from the Egyptians. God put a distinct division between His people and Pharaoh's people. Only the Egyptians were inflicted, and Pharaoh for the second time said Israel could go and sacrifice to God. But once God removed the flies, Pharaoh once again hardened his heart and would not let Israel go.
  • The fifth plague was of the death of Egyptian cattle by way of infectious disease (murrain). Once again the Israelites were spared and separated from the Egyptian people/plague. Pharaoh's heart remained hardened against God and the Israelites.
  • The sixth plague was that of boils, including the sorcerers. Pharaoh remained hardened against letting Israel go to sacrifice.
  • The seventh plague was devastating hail. With this plague the Egyptians that believed upon God and brought in their cattle were spared the death of the cattle. The Israelites were spared altogether as the previous times since the division in the fourth plague. Pharaoh admitted sin and wickedness, and again promised to let the Israelites go to worship God, and again retracted and refused to let them go.
  • When Moses/Aaron foretold of the eighth plague, the servants of Pharaoh came unto him asking he let Israel go lest Egypt be destroyed. He then called in Moses/Aaron questioning who would go, threatening "evil" (meaning death), and saying they could worship God.
  • The eighth plague was of locusts. Once again, Pharaoh admitted sin, said Israel could go, hardened his heart and retracted, not letting the people go.
  • The ninth plague was of darkness over all of Egypt except for Goshen (where the Israelites dwelled). It was a darkness that could be felt and lasted three days. Pharaoh said the people of Israel could go but had to leave their herds/flocks. When that was unacceptable, he refused to let the people go. He told Moses/Aaron not to see his face again.
  • God promised one final plague and prepared the Israelites for it. The 10th plague was to be the death of all firstborn in the land of Egypt including beasts of the land, sparing only the Israelites that followed God's instructions. Putting a difference between Egyptian and Israelite beyond doubt.

  • The above links go into the detail of the first Passover to be kept to the second Passover to still be kept until the 2nd Advent. The links include the details of the death angel to pass over the Israelites that obeyed God's instruction of the blood on door posts. The links are in the order for which to read for explanation and deeper study.
  • There are several purposes of the unleavened bread. I will put forth two for your consideration: 1) leaven represents the addition to God that if taken in will rise against the Truth of God (symbolic); 2) the time for bread to leaven would go against the haste needing to be made by the Israelites in following God's direction out of Egypt.
  • When the Israelites left Egypt the numbers were about 600,000 on foot that were men, beside children. Later in Scripture there will be an accounting of the Israelites.
  • Their Exodus was the end of the 430 years from Genesis 12:4 and the 400 years from Genesis 21:10, spoken of in Genesis 15:13. This occurred in 1491 BC.
  • God declares that all firstborns (both man and beast) belong to Him, and that He will redeem His children. Exodus 13:2 and Exodus 13:15.
  • God knowing the hearts of Israel, knew that they would cower at the sign of trouble; therefore, He led them through the wilderness as opposed to the quicker route through the land of the Philistines. So much of the journey from Egypt to Canaan (Promised Land) was such as dictated by the backsliding, soddishness of the Israelites.
  • Joseph's bones were taken with the Israelites out of Egypt.
  • God led the Israelites through a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. He only moved behind them at the Red Sea to separate them from the Egyptians. Pharaoh came after the Israelites to overtake them in the wilderness with 600 chosen chariots.
  • The Israelites once again coward and grumbled as was their practice anytime adversity seemed too hard or against them. This would be the case ongoing throughout the Exodus and on into the Promised Land.
  • Moses had two songs: The first is in Exodus 15 and was sung after the Red Sea and full escape from the Egyptians. It was a witness and demonstration of what the second Song of Moses would be in the 2nd Advent following the 7th Trump. This first song was a retelling of the history of the Israelites and their Exodus from Egypt. The second song in Deuteronomy is history and prophecy for Israel. Just as the first song was sung after the Exodus, the second Song of Moses will be sung after Christ's return in the 2nd Advent. Song of Moses

Day 4 Genesis 40:12 - Genesis 50:26

Genesis 40:12-47:26 Joseph and the Famine
  • While Joseph remained in prison in Egypt, Pharaoh had dreams that could not be interpreted (1715 BC per Bullinger KJV Companion Bible dating). This would put Joseph 2 years in prison beyond when he had interpreted the Butler/Baker's dream (and 12 years in Egypt after being sold by his brothers).
  • So, like the parables in the New Testament, God interpreted the dreams. All the land (not just Egypt, but also Canaan) would have 7 years of plentiful harvests, followed by 7 years of famine. God always gives us a heads up, if we are opened to His direction!
  • It was advised that a 5th part of the land should be stored up during the 7 years of abundance in order to survive the 7 years of famine.
  • Joseph was made ruler over Pharaoh's house, second in command/ruler only to Pharaoh over all of the land of Egypt.
  • The land of Goshen in Egypt was ruled by the Shepherd Kings, Hyksos, and other non-Egyptian peoples. The Egyptians did not herd sheep, etc., and had Hebrews of this area doing these things that they felt were abominable. It was from this stock of ancestors of Joseph that he was given in marriage. Both the name that Joseph was given by the Pharaoh (Zaphnath-paaneah meaning "abundance of life") as well as the name of Joseph's wife (Asenath) were Egyptian names, not reflections of them being of Egyptian descent. Asenath was the daughter of  the priest of On. Lots more on this when we do a deeper study into the early Adamic/Eber Hebrews/locations and interactions with the Abrahamic Hebrews.
  • The 7 years of "plenty" were from 1715-1708 BC, Joseph 30-37 years of age.
  • Joseph begat two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.
  • The 7 years of famine were from 1707-1700 BC, Joseph was 38-45 years of age. The famine was all over the earth with all countries migrating to Egypt for food.
  • The 10 brothers made a trip to Egypt most likely in the 1st year of the famine, a second trip which included Benjamin in the 2nd year of the famine, returning for a 3rd and final time with the entirety of Israel and offspring. Benjamin would have been 22 years old during the second year of the famine (1706 BC).
  • Joseph hadn't seen his brother Benjamin since Benjamin was a year old.
  • In Genesis 45:8 the reference to Joseph being "father to Pharaoh" was an Egyptian title of high office of state.
  • The land of Goshen referenced in Genesis 45:10 was where the Hyksos resided in Egypt, and naturally where the Israel Hebrews would be placed.
  • God promised to be with Israel on the third trip down to Egypt with Israel as well as the promise to bring them up again. In 1706 BC, Israel was 130 years old (Joseph was 39 years old).
  • The 215 years of the sojourning in Egypt began in 1706 BC (and ended at their Exodus in 1491 BC). It was half of the 430 years that began in 1921 BC, Genesis 12:4.
  • Counting Joseph and his two sons, 70 souls came from Israel and were now in Egypt.
  • The Hyksos residing in Goshen were set aside/away from the Egyptians as they being shepherds were an abomination unto the Egyptians, Genesis 46:34.
  • The brethren of Joseph were given Pharaoh's cattle to herd in Goshen for him.
  • Once the money was used up, then cattle/herds/flocks were traded for food, then the land was given. From the years of the famine, Pharaoh owned everything in Egypt except for the priest's land. The people of Egypt were sworn servants of Pharaoh.
Genesis 47:27-50:26 Israel's Blessings
  • Joseph's sons were blessed first before the other 12. Israel claimed Ephraim and Manasseh as his own, and Israel put his name on them. Thereby giving them inheritance and blessings along with the 12 other sons, making a 13th tribe of Israel.
  • Israel put Ephraim before Manasseh in his blessing of the two sons (Manasseh was Joseph's firstborn, but Ephraim was blessed as the firstborn son.). Ephraim was blessed to become a multitude of nations (and would become England). Manasseh was blessed to become a great nation (and would become the United States of America). In this, Joseph was given a portion above his brethren. Once they entered the promised land after the Exodus/wandering, the land inheritance would be divided by tribe. Joseph's inheritance of land went through Manasseh and Ephraim (12th and 13th). Levi, as the priest tribe, would not own land.
  • Reuben's firstborn blessing was taken away as a result of him lying with his father's concubine.
  • Simeon and Levi's anger was cursed due to their involvement with the slaying of Shechem's house in revenge for their sister Dinah.
  • Judah was blessed as the king line until the 2nd Advent when the true King of Kings comes.
  • Israel died in 1689 BC, after all his sons were blessed. He was 147 years old at his death. Joseph was 56 years old, and had been in Egypt for 38 years.
  • Joseph died in 1635 BC when he was 110 years old, and having been in Egypt for 92 years.
